Laikipia United self help group started in 2019 as part of a  lobby group by youth from Laikipia County under the name  ‘’youth partners’’ They would meet informally in various  venues to discuss issues that commonly affected them. The youth in Laikipia identified housing as a major problem. They decided to do a savings that enabled them to buy land, the idea, "To have a place where every member would call a home" was born. In 2020, they registered Laikipia United SHG through which they  got a Till Number in KCB Bank where each member would  deposit Kshs.100/= per month. The SHG had about 34 groups  totaling to 2,016 members which spread over to five wards in  Laikipia Constituency. Different group members would carry out an activity called  ‘’Joint Effort’’ to raise funds for each individual to boost the SHG  saving kitty. By 2022, only 15 group were still  active and to attain the goal of  getting homes for members, the  SHG was converted and  registered as Laikipia United  Housing Cooperative Society Ltd  in Sept.2022 Reg.Certificate  No.27229 under the Cooperative  Societies Act Cap 490 Laws of  Kenya. The Housing SACCO identified suitable , affordable land located  within Nanyuki town and acquired 270 Acres in  Nov,2023.Demarcation is complete and titling is in progress with  the department of lands. Grading of roads has already been done  in conformity with the Urban planning By- laws of Nanyuki  Municipality. After attaining certificate of Cooperative, we were recognized and  awarded as best Housing Cooperative in 2023. In 2025 we managed to demacate the land  LR NO.2782/25 into Acres and plots. However, we expect to have a Mortgage of modern house as a housing Coo-perative
